CIPM Celebrates the journey of 60 years of people Development in Sri Lanka

CIPM Sri Lanka – the Nation’s leader in Human Resource Management recently commemorated its grand milestone of completing 60 years of HR development and upliftment of the HR community in Sri Lanka.

“During the last 60 years we have grown to be a recognized and highly respected member of the regional as well as worldwide HR communities making an indelible impact on the understanding, propagation and promulgation of best practices in human resource management in our communities” said Jayantha Amarasinghe-President, CIPM Sri Lanka.

“Over the past 60 years, CIPM has been able to achieve and surpass our goals and milestones due to the dedicated service of our Council Members, Past Presidents, members, lecturers and staff, and resource personnel. I take this opportunity to extend my warm and sincere appreciation to all those who contributed to our amazing journey” he added.

CIPM was founded in 1959 – incorporated by Parliamentary Act No. 24 of 1976, amended by Act No. 31 of 2018 granting the prestigious Charter status. Its current professional membership stands at 1600 members who hold responsible HR management positions in private and public sector organizations as well as higher level positions driving businesses. The CIPM Business School which has an approx. student base of 9000 produces over 1000 qualified HR professionals annually. CIPM organizes many national level conferences and exhibitions every year such as the National HR Conference, Research Symposium, Great HR Exhibition, Great HR debate etc which contributes to the deeper understanding, upliftment, and application of best of breed HR practices. CIPM was also able to secure the rights to host the prestigious World Annual HR Congress – the worlds largest HR conclave in Sri Lanka which is scheduled to be held at the BMICH in 2021. CIPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Foundation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) and to the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA), the two largest HR professional bodies in the region and the world respectively. The CIPM President is currently the President of APFHRM.

CIPM has established 3 fully fledged study centers in Galle, Kandy and Kurunegala and has established many academic and professional collaborations with universities and higher education institutions to widen the student base of HRM for the purpose of offering HRM as an attractive career path to as many students as possible.

In keeping with the multi-religious nature of the Sri Lankan social fabric, CIPM’s grand milestone of 60 years of HR development was celebrated with an all-night long Pirith ceremony, blessings by representatives of different religions and faiths which were held at the CIPM Sri Lanka Head office “HR House” in Colombo 5. President – Jayantha Amarasinghe, members of the Governing Council, Past Presidents, Fellow Members and CIPM staff participated in these celebrations.
